Bio‐based benzoxazine monomers and polymers based on difuran diamine

Abstract Benzoxazine monomers with high renewable content made from difuran diamine (DFDA) are presented. The benzoxazine were synthesized by reacting DFDA several bio‐based phenolic compounds and formaldehyde. These systems purified precipitation, depending on composition, the resulting solid powders melt at temperatures ranging between 50 150°C to form low viscosity liquids that can be used impregnate fiber reinforcements. Onset cure temperature varies composition in range of 150–240°C. polybenzoxazines have T g 's 240 300°C. It was found structure selected affects curing mechanisms DFDA‐based benzoxazines, Benzoxazines available ortho or para positions structures result without mass loss. also adding furan rings into backbone polybenzoxazine network provided added benefit char yield as 60%, measured thermalgravimetric analysis ramps an inert environment 800°C. Compared benzene‐ring‐based counterparts, furan‐based benzoxazines showed better thermal stability. In addition promising processing characteristics useful for applications requiring fire resistance, these materials contain content.
